Odrick’s Odditites

Odrick’s Oddities is an enchanted store. It looks like an antique shop with a wide array of goods for sale from clothing and weapons to artifacts, jewelry, and art. Pretty much everything in the store is either cursed or the creation of dark magic. The store is never in the same place for very long. It moves from town to town often taking the place of an empty or otherwise closed storefront. And then, without warning, it will vanish. Most people ignore or overlook the store but those with an evil yearning or a dangerous sense of curiosity will find themselves drawn to its. Obadiah Odrick is an archdevil, although he plays at being a harmless and elderly human merchant. He specializes in providing people with something that feeds their evil desires. Those who shop in his store either know what they are buying or are gullible fools. Odrick takes them all. His prices are generally fair and if a patron can’t pay in gold, Odrick is more than willing to accept other forms of payment. He is as much willing to buy as he is to sell and is a shrewd trader. Any thief or robber who attempts to steal an object from the store will regret it as they are corrupted or destroyed by the treasures they take.

You must have walked this street a hundred times but you never noticed that shop before. And yet, the dusty windows and weather-worn sign above the door suggest that it has been there for years. The sign reads “Odrick’s Oddities” in an elegant and flowing script that was probably once gold but has faded to a dirty brown. Whether it is curiosity or perhaps fate that compels your footsteps, you find yourself turning towards the door and stepping inside. A gentle chime rings above your head announcing your arrival. Glancing up, you notice that there is no bell above the door. You look around and see shelves and tables filled with the strangest assortment of goods. It looks like an antique store. You glimpse jewelry, toys, books, weapons, furniture, and more all artfully displayed but lacking any clear order or price tags. Behind the back counter sits a bored looking young man reading from a large tome.

“Welcome to Odrick’s Oddities,” he calls out in monotone. “Purveyor of rare and wondrous treasures. We provide whatever your heart desires.” He doesn’t even look at you as he turns the page of his book.

From the small horns on his forehead, the pointed ears, and the reddish glow to his eyes, you recognize the man as a tiefling. He has a pale pointed face and long black fingernails. There are dark circles painted around his eyes in a strange pattern. Just as you are about to speak when you hear a crash like a dish shattering and a low guttural swear from another room.

“Josef,” shouts a voice. “Josef, the imps are loose again. Get in here!” The voice seems to come from a back room that is blocked off by a large curtain.

Josef sighs heavily and stands up from his stool. The gangly young man is surprisingly tall. He stands well over seven feet. He picks up a broom and pushes his way into the curtained room. A moment later, an old man steps out with his back towards you.

“And don’t let them touch my reagents this time,” he orders. There’s another crash followed with a small explosion. The smell of rotten eggs drifts into the room. The old man shakes his head and mutters, “Never mind.” He turns and notices you.

You see the old man has slightly stooped shoulders and sharp black eyes. He is well dressed but his clothing seem mismatched. They appear to be drawn from different eras and time periods. It’s as if he took all of the latest fashions from the last five hundred years, tossed them in a box, shook them, and then chose an outfit at random. The old man gives you an unnaturally wide grin.

“Ahh. A Customer,” he cries. “Welcome. Welcome to Odrick’s Oddities. I am Obadiah Odrick, your humble servant. Looking for something rare to decorate your home or a unique gift that will astonish and amaze then you are in the right place. I have goods from every corner of this world and beyond. Objects of incredible beauty and power. Treasures and trinkets. Rarities and Riches. Everything you can imagine and more. I should warn you that some of my merchandise should not be handled lightly. But please, take a look around and let me know if anything catches your eye. We can discuss the price later.”

Something about the hungry look in the merchant’s eyes makes you uneasy.
