Sword of Mixed Blessings Background
At approximately an hour past sunset last night there was an enormous explosion at the Sea’s Bounty near Dockside. Upon arriving, we found half of the building destroyed and seventeen injured. Four with severe burns were transported to the House of Healing. As far as we can tell, there were only two deaths. A sailor named Fulgarth from the Flying Heron and a mercenary named Pelborg. According to multiple sources at the tavern, the situation happened as followed: A group of seven sailors from the Flying Heron arrived just before sunset and ordered a meal. Their names are included below. According to the ship manifest they had only just arrived in town earlier that day. Shortly after, two mercenaries named Pelborg and Waine arrived at the tavern for a night of drinking. The sailor, Fulgarth, got into an argument with Pelborg over a minor issue. The conflict escalated and swords were drawn. According to all present, Pelborg struck Fulgarth and his sword “exploded.” Waine told us that Pelborg had purchased the sword earlier in the day from an old man at a store called Odrick’s Oddities. We searched the market district but could find no such store. At the tavern, we found the charred remains of both Pelborg and Fulgarth along with a longsword that appears to possess some magic qualities. We’ve taken it to the Mage Stronghold for identification. Currently, we are listing the deaths as accidental use of unknown object of magical origin. Further inquiry unnecessary.
