Violin of The Master

Violin of the Master

Master of the Violin

A Sea Chantey

Sailors tremble, soldiers shudder.

Lose the tack and drop the rudder.

When the songs of death begin.

On the river down the way.

In the darkness past the bay.

Sails the master of the violin.

One, two, three, four.

One, two, three, four.

Strum the strings and speak no more.

The black ship, the black sky.

Blood will spill and dead will cry.

When the guilty meet their sin.

Through the dark and misty night.

Raise the tale, his chilling spite.

Sings the master of the violin.

One, two, three, four.

One, two, three, four.

Strum the strings and speak no more.

Pay the piper. Pay his toll.

Fingers fly. Heads will roll.

When the depth of fear sets in.

Pray to flee or walk the plank.

Men he slew and ships he sank.

Plays the master of the violin.

One, two, three, four.

One, two, three, four

Strum the strings and speak no more.

Hey diddle. Hey fiddle.

Fur, claws and spittle.

Speak the words for the win.

No one knows. No one sees.

Tumble blindly in the breeze.

Claws the master of the violin.

One, two, three, four.

One, two, three, four

Strum the strings and speak no more.

Violin of the Master (Rare cursed item, Requires Attunement)

Description: The violin of the master is a beautiful stringed instrument with elegant curves and black stings. On the back is a carved image of a cat playing a violin. It is said that the first violin of the master was created by an enfamous pirate and that he imbued it with a curse to discourage thieves. Inspired by this tale, other violins of the master were created. Each one has its own trigger song.

The violin of the master allows anyone trained in musical perfomance to play it with advantage. A bard using the violin of the master as a focus may add their Wisdom bonus in addition to the normal Charisma bonus to the magical attack rolls and DCs of their spells.

Kitty Curse: The violin of the master is a cursed item. It must be played with precision and care or the kitty curse activates. As part of attuning to the instrument, a violinist must play a very specific song that was chosen during the violin’s creation. If that specific song is not played, any attempt to use or attune to the weapon permanently transforms the would-be perfomer into a house cat. The victim retains their Intelligence and ability to speak but all of their other ability scores change to that of a normal cat. All racial bonuses and abilities are replaced with those of a cat. Their class does not change and they retain all class abilities that their new body is capable of realistically performing. (IE: They can no longer wield a sword but they do gain a claw attack. They could still cast spells and could potentially wear specially designed armor.) In order to properly attune to the instrument, a person must know the trigger song. Identifying the trigger song can be learned from a deity, through someone who knows it, or from a divinition spell of 6th level or higher.

Curing the Curse: The transformation of the kitty curse is permanent. However, a transformation spell of 7th level or higher could change the victim into something new.

Destroying the Violin: The magic that enchants the violin of the master does not protect it from damage. The violin of the master can be destroyed as if it were a normal violin. Destroying the violin does not cure anyone affected by the kitty curse.
