Dead Man’s Boots

Dead Man’s Boots Cursed Item Rare

Description: Dead man’s boots can be created by any kind of magical boots or shoes. They are created when a person who is on an important journey is brutally murdered before they have arrived at their destination. The boots become a conduit for the dead individual’s spirit and will force anyone who puts them on to complete the original journey of the dead owner. The boots will retain whatever enchantment they possess but they gain the Unfinished Journey Curse.

Unfinished Journey Curse: Anyone who puts on the cursed shoes is afflicted with the unfinished journey curse. They cannot take the shoes off and suffer a a compulsion as if they were affected by a geas spell cast by a 12th level sorcerer to travel to a specified location.

Ending the Curse: The curse has no set duration and only ends if the cursed individual dies or arrives at the specified location at which point they can remove the boots. This does not remove the curse from the shoes though. The only way to truly remove the curse from the shoe is through a complex and expensive ritual (costs 2000 gp) conducted by a 10th level cleric or higher in order to properly excise the spirit from the boots. A wish spell can also remove the curse from the boots entirely.

Destroying the Shoes: Dead man’s boots can be destroyed by dealing 20 holy or magical fire damage to it.
